Yet another season of Singles Inferno has recently been released on Netflix! This is the fourth season of Singles Inferno, sparking much excitement among fans of previous seasons.
Some would say that this show can be viewed as the Korean version of American hit series Love Island. Essentially, in this season of Singles Inferno, seven women and six men spent one week stranded on an island. During this time, they compete in challenges, and have opportunities to escape the island by choosing their dates to go to “Paradise” or a fancy hotel with, where they can get to know their potential partners. When they are not in Paradise, they are on an island named Inferno, with the rest of the contestants who are not in Paradise, where they can also talk and become acquainted with each other.
It was really interesting to see the small differences each season brought to the table. For instance, there were always different challenges to go to paradise, like a race for men, or a wrestling match for women.
In the last episode, the contestants had to choose a partner, and try to find a match to leave Inferno–and the show–with.
Many viewers did not enjoy this season as much as the others. I somewhat agree, as too much attention was focused on one particular contestant: Lee Sian.
Sian seemed to be the woman that attracted the attention from most of the men, and as a result, she often had significantly more screen time compared to the other contestants. This was drastically different from previous seasons, where the discrepancies between each contestants’ screen times were not as obvious.
Still, I think it made the show more enjoyable in a way. Many of the couples towards the end were sure of their decisions, and there was no more drama to be shown. Sian’s plot created more tension within the show. Some viewers have even joked that this season of Singles Inferno should actually be called Sian’s inferno.
However, there were viewers that disliked the amount of attention that was on Sian alone, and wished the show gave some of the other contestants more screen time.
In the later episodes, three men: Yuk Junseo, Jang Theo, and Kim Jeongsu were all set on choosing her. They stuck with their choice in the end, but Sian ended up choosing Junseo.
Countless fans are upset with this couple, calling it a “red flag” couple. This is mainly because both these contestants always show uneasiness when it comes to deciding who they like best, rather than sticking with one.
Jang Theo, was the particular person that interested me the most. Straight from the first episode, he decided to pursue Sian and only invested in Sian until the end.
Aside from me, many viewers complimented this quality of his as well, calling him the green flag of the show.
One of the biggest reasons why the contestants joined Singles Inferno was to gain exposure and popularity. Although many did not end up with a partner, all of them gained popularity after the show.
Although virtually all of the couples that leave inferno together do not end up dating in real life, there are rumors that Sian and Junseo are still together post-filming!
Singles Inferno 4 faced very high expectations from viewers, and I think it is safe to say that the show lived up to its expectations. The episodes were all engaging and interesting, and I was genuinely invested the entire time.
They have already announced that there will be a Season 5 coming out, and I am definitely looking forward to it.
