Sabrina Carpenter’s cover photo for her most recent album Man’s Best Friend (Apple Music)
Sabrina Carpenter’s new album Man’s Best Friend just released, and after the success of her last album Short N’ Sweet, expectations were high.
The first sneak peak we got of the album was the single she released, titled “Manchild”. Although it had some negative reviews because some fans said it sounded like all her other songs, most fans, me included, loved it.
When she released the cover of her album, I have to admit I was not impressed . It was an insult to feminism, in my opinion.
The album cover consists of Sabrina Carpenter on all fours, while a man is grabbing her by her hair. It was almost as if she was submitting to the man grabbing her hair. It was shocking to see this as a fan, because she doesn’t usually portray herself like this. She is typically very empowering towards girls.
On CBS Morning, she said that the cover of her album almost perfectly represents all the songs on Man’s Best Friend, but after listening to the album, I still don’t believe the album deserved such a cover.
Of course I was still excited for the release, but I was disappointed because the message that the cover sends does impact women in a negative way.
On the night of the album drop, I, like many other fans, was counting down the minutes until I got to hear it. Excited was an understatement, it had been months since the announcement of the album and the time to listen to it was finally here.
After listening to the whole album, my favorite song is, without a doubt, “Tears”. The song is a mixture of modern pop, disco, and a little bit of country. The song is different from anything I’ve ever heard. It was so catchy and I genuinely enjoyed it.
Her lyrics on this album are also very notable. She is an empowering woman and she is truly the embodiment of “women in male fields”. (This just means that the things she sings about aren’t usually what you hear women pop-stars sing about).
The whole album is sarcastic and pokes fun at men, which I personally love about her lyrics. She is super creative with the way she targets digs at certain men, and her experiences with them are highly relatable to almost every woman, which is why people love her and her songs so much.
I loved every song on this album. They were all catchy, although some were a little bit too similar. The only negative part about it was the album cover, but the songs themselves were very empowering.
I definitely recommend taking some time to listen to Man’s Best Friend, but especially the songs, “Tears”, “When Did You Get Hot?”, and “Sugar Talking”.
It was definitely worth the wait, the album is a 10/10 as far as I’m concerned. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to branch out because the songs were all uniquely different from any other albums being released by other artists!
