The LOHS Girls Flag Football team is celebrating after taking a win! (Coach Palmer)
Our LOHS Girls’ Flag Football went head-to-head with Covina High School Girls’ Flag Football and ended the game with an unfortunate score of 0-28. Even though they didn’t end up winning, they made sure not to let it diminish their spirit.
Halfway through the second quarter, the score was 0-14, but the people in attendance made sure that their energy was up, continuing to cheer and support the players. One of our students in attendance, Junior Zackary Whitacre, said, “I love the vibes here; it’s very positive.”
“Even if we’re down, we’re good,” said Senior Varsity Captain Zaire Morris after the conclusion of the game. “We can still come back; we can always make a comeback.”
“This team is a good team, and if we don’t come out with the energy we used to come out with, we’re going to fall short,” Offensive Coach Tony Moore said.
A few members of the team couldn’t make it to the game against Covina High School, and this affected the overall performance of the team. Captain Zaire Morris said, “Not everyone can show up to every game, and today was just one of those days.”
The team explains that one of the most important aspects of being on the LOHS Girls’ Flag Football team is to be connected and to support each other. Senior Varsity Receiver Delila Aguilar stated, “Caring and being compassionate for others on this team is the most important part of being on this team, having the ability to pick someone up when they fall.”
Although being a good player is a significant part of being on the team, the connectivity and the way they socialize with each other are collectively the most important components. Captain Zaire Morris expressed, “We are a team together, and we’re also a family.”
There are also other factors that go into being a good player, most notably, your skill. “The whole thing is flag pulling, catching, and passing.” Coach Tony mentioned. “The qualities are, you know, having agility and being quick, and being fast is also a good attribute of playing this sport.”
Coach Tony is striving to make sure that all the girls take away life lessons from playing flag football, so it can help all of them accomplish more in the future. He noted, “I want them to learn how to be responsible, you know, with the equipment, and just learning and listening, and learning how to play together, and improving.”
“This game really teaches you accountability, and really turns you into a team player.” Zaire Morris explains that the things she has learned from being a captain for this team are lessons that will remain with her as time goes on.
Although this game did not have their preferred outcome, they are not letting that crush their drive. Instead, they are even more determined to stay resilient and bounce back better than ever!
Los Osos High School is so fortunate to have such a remarkable Flag Football team to represent them! Make sure to check them out and cheer them on at their next game!
