Hamilton in Theaters (Playbill)
Alexander Hamilton, a founding father’s story that you don’t hear quite often, inspired Lin Manuel Miranda to write “Hamilton the Musical”, bringing this project to live Broadway. “Hamilton the Musical” mainly follows Alexander Hamilton in the American Revolution. When Miranda first announced Hamilton, he states; “I am actually working on a HipHop album, it’s a concept album about the life of someone I think embodies HipHop, Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton” in a speech that he had given at the White House on May 12th, 2009.
The musical later came out with the original Broadway cast on August 6th, 2015 featuring Lin Manuel Miranda, Phillipa Soo, Renee Goldsberry, Anthony Ramos, etc…. With the musical now being out for ten years, Miranda announces Hamilton’s first time being on “The Big Screen” in theaters starting September 5th, 2025 for the 10th year anniversary. The public has been thrilled with this new information. People got their costumes/cosplay, makeup, and singing voices ready to celebrate. Although, some other people would have liked to watch Hamilton in silence. Most people would say “Oh, just watch it on Disney+”, but those same people have about the same feeling of wanting to experience this in theaters. In a recent screening about five days ago, an elderly woman told a child to “shut up”, afterwards a young man argued with her that she was being rude to a child who was just trying to enjoy the movie. Additionally stating that if she really wanted a quiet experience, that she should have gone to the actual play that was still going on in their same city.
Are we actually supposed to sing along though? In the beginning scene before the musical had actually started, multiple cast members had said “I am just here for the sing-alongs” by Phillipa Soo, “Scream, laugh” by Jonathan Groff, and “Turn up. That is, when you watch this show, turn up. If you feel it, express it” by Daveed Diggs. So typically , we can sing along with the musical.
Moreover I would like to bring up the fact that the movie theaters didn’t do as great of a job marketing the movie like they did with others. For example, they had 2 screenings for K-Pop Demon Hunters; one for the people that just wanted to watch the movie, and another for the people who wanted to come dressed up and sing along with it. On the other hand, while Hamilton the musical was running mid song, there had been multiple fights/arguments with people who wanted to sing along and with the others who wanted it silent. There should have been more involvement with the movie staff to help and stop these arguments.
Around this time, the musical came to theaters and dressing up as one’s favorite character would have to be one of the best ideas. Not only do you get to wear that outfit when you go see the movie, but you also can wear it on Halloween, and to Halloween parties. People really showed how much they love and care for this movie, and I think that was really awesome.
