The Muslim Student Association, also referred to as MSA, is one of the many clubs on the Los Osos campus.
Muslim students are a huge part of Los Osos, and the MSA allows a safe and welcoming environment for them to connect with others that have had similar experiences to them.
MSA boasts a vibrantly talented student body- that of which includes media manager Amira Turki.

Sometimes we discuss our religion, Islam, and incorporate it into current events. We discuss how we as Muslims should respond and react to modern-day problems.”

When asked about the club and the activities that those involved partake in, Turki said, “Our meetings differ in MSA; Sometimes we discuss our religion, Islam, and incorporate it into current events. We discuss how we as Muslims should respond and react to modern-day problems. Then other times, we indulge in fun activities that correlate with our religion, such as building edible mosques and making our own personalized prayer beads.”
The student board at MSA works diligently to connect with members of the club and bring them closer to their religion.
Not only does the club partake in fun activities, they also frequently give back to the community. During the summer, members teamed up with Rancho Cucamonga High School MSA and assembled 80 care packages for the homeless, handing each one out personally.
The immense effort and care put into activities and fundraisers brings in a large number of members, resulting in the MSA being one of the most populous clubs on campus.
When asked why she joined, Turki said, “I decided to partake in an MSA meeting one time and I was met with the most fun and welcoming environment. Everyone was very kind, making it very easy to connect and make friends. The fun activities were also a plus.”
As previously mentioned, Amira Turki is the media manager for the club, which entails managing social media accounts and creating posters.
When asked about her position in the club, Turki said, “My part in the MSA student board is the media manager. That entails making flyers and graphic designs to promote fundraisers and alert members of meeting dates. I run the MSA Instagram, which is where I post all my graphic designs.”
“I mainly make our posters on Canva,” Turki said when asked about how she makes her graphic designs, “Canva provides many templates that fit with a lot of our events. I use a variation of different designs provided, all which fit along with the events they correlate with.”
Turki’s stunning posters advertise the many extracurricular activities and fundraisers that the club partakes in. Just this year, MSA has had fundraisers at Menchies, a picnic, and a movie night.
The club is welcoming to people of all kinds and encourages anybody with an interest in the culture to join.
When asked about people who are interested in joining, Turki said, “To those who are curious about the MSA and are considering joining, I urge you to do so! Come check out one of our meetings and I am sure you will enjoy it.Our club is open to everyone, and we hope to see you there!”
