The exciting bit of the entertainment industry is seeing two different types of media come together, and this happens most often with book to movie adaptations, taking words on paper and breathing new life into them.
There’s always some underlying doubt with book to movie adaptations because oftentimes, they do not bring justice to the books, altering storylines and even characters that many believe ruin the book.
However, it’s essential to remember that movies and books are different types of media, and some changes are vital in order for the film to succeed in a different sort of industry. It’s appreciative that authors are usually working with producers and filmmakers in order to bring the books to life in a way that fans will appreciate and love.
One adaptation that was released recently and is one of my favorite adaptations to date is “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”, a television series based on the books by Rick Riordan. It was recently greenlighted for its second season, and I think it is one of the better book to screen adaptations, simply because of how hands-on Riordan worked on it, ensuring that every aspect of the books was brought to life.
Another adaptation that was done well was “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins. Out of the franchise, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” was the best one, bringing Snow’s (played by Tom Blythe) backstory and cruelty to life in a perfect and chilling manner.
Other adaptations that are available based on books include “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” by Jenny Han, and “Heartstopper” by Alice Oseman.
All were fairly good adaptations, and have strong acting and writing. The only one that I personally didn’t like is “The Summer I Turned Pretty”, but that’s just because I didn’t like the books and despise the main character, Belly.
There are some upcoming book to movie adaptations that I am highly anticipating. One of the my most eagerly awaited is “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” (AGGTM) by Holly Jackson, which has an estimated release date of 2024. This adaptation will be based on the first book in the trilogy.
With Emma Myers playing the female main character, Pip Fitz-Amobi, and Zain Iqbal playing Ravi Singh, the second lead, “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” on screen is set to become a fast-paced, intense, and thrilling show, with fans eager to see one of the most beloved Booktok books coming to life.
AGGTM is a YA mystery and thriller series, following Pip investigating a murder-suicide mystery in her town. I love Myers’ acting, so I’m excited to see how she’ll bring Pip’s character to life, and based off of the behind the scenes teasers, she and Iqbal will have incredible chemistry and I’m simply pumped for its upcoming release.
Other popular books have recently been approved or taken on, including “The Spanish Love Deception” by Elena Armas and “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
It’s exciting to see such beloved books be brought to the screen, and readers only hope that they will live up to expectations.
