As Los Osos High School (LOHS) progresses through the years, so does our amazing sports program.
This year, LOHS introduced a new sport to our athletics program, Girls Flag Football making grizzly history!
So far into their season, these ladies, alongside Head Coach Anthony Moore, have done a tremendous job implementing more school spirit, having some major wins, and overall being a cohesive team.
It’s amazing to see how these young women are so dedicated and working hard into the sport they play seeing as their first game against Montclair High School ended in a grizzly win with 33-0.
What an outstanding first game for the team and as they breeze through the season we hope to see more of that resilience follow through.
Flag Football is an incredibly tough sport that requires athletes to put so much strain on their body so when it comes to the importance of agility, you cannot underestimate it.
Both offensive and defensive players need to maintain coordination and balance to be successful in a game. With LOHS having a well-rounded team of amazing young women, these factors aren’t hard to follow for them.
Having players with an overarching set of skills can make the biggest impact when it comes to having the ability to read the field and the players around them as well as adapting to their environment and surroundings that lead a team to overall success.
Thus being said, while the physicality of the sport should be recognized, so should the mental aspect that any player goes through.
When asked about what keeps her motivated throughout practices and games, Senior Safety Jenna Zavala said, “Throughout practice and games, the team as a whole motivates me! All of us put in loads of effort in order to improve our skills and make good plays happen during our games. I want to work hard and play good every time in order to benefit my team!”
As playing might seem liberating, so does being a part of an organization that is supportive and diligent. “Being a part of this team has influenced my life in several ways. Firstly, over the summer I tore my ACL playing soccer…However, once school started I realized that all of my teammates were here to support me through the course of dealing with my injury. Being on this team has made starting high school a very positive experience…I am so grateful that I am on this team because of the environment we are building as a team,” Freshman Receiver Anika Chhabra said when asked how being a part of this team has influenced her life and/or drive as an athlete.
As these factors play into this flag football team’s success so far, what makes them such a successful group of individuals and team is their bond Senior Defensive Back Leah Perez said, “The thing I really love about this sport is that each and every one of us is learning day by day. We all get an opportunity to grow together as well as being apart of history”
Make sure to go out and let these ladies and Head Coach Anthony Moore know that their dedication is being noticed. Go Girls Flag Football!
