The football season for Los Osos High School is officially underway, and the players and coaches are more excited than ever to embark on what they hope will be a successful season. The goal for every varsity football team in the region is very clear, to reach the promised land of a California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Championship victory.
Last year, our team was very close to moving on in the CIF Playoffs, however, they came up very short in a high-scoring affair against Kaiser High School in Fontana, California, losing by one point and ending the season on a heartbreaking note.
It is important for the team to move on and improve from where they were last year by looking at what they can improve upon and how they must adapt to star players from last year leaving and new players coming in.
To achieve their main goal this year, they must finish their regular season off strong, securing a spot in the CIF playoffs and potentially reaching their ultimate destination—the championship. This ambition is no different for our team, and long-time offensive lineman coach, and teacher at Los Osos High School, Coach Mike Randall, understands what it takes to achieve this dream of winning success.
When interviewed about what it takes for the team to achieve a championship victory, Coach Randall of the football team said,
“Not only do they have to work hard, but they have to come together as a team and work as a unit.”
Randall added, “I am looking forward to improving this season and having a shot of making it all the way to the finals.”
Coach Randall had optimistic things to say about the upcoming season, saying that, “We had so much growth last year and so much potential to build upon the momentum we created for our future success. Should be really exciting.”
Coach Randall’s optimism about the upcoming Los Osos football season is clear, as he and the coaching staff believe they have unfinished business this season.
Not only are the coaches excited, but more importantly, the players are too.
They feel they have something to prove this season. Senior defensive tackle and defensive end Shane Herrera, who dreams of playing college football and getting drafted by the NFL, shared his thoughts on the upcoming season.
“I love being a part of something great, especially the energy I feel when I’m around my teammates,” Herrera said.
When asked about what he has learned as a player throughout your four years of being on the football team, Herrera replied, “What I’ve learned about being on the football team is brotherhood, and how it’s not only about one person; everyone has a part, even if they don’t play.”
Herrera and the whole football team are excited for this upcoming season and the potential wins of this year. Herrera said,
“This school should be excited about this season because we’re going to go win a state championship. No doubt.”
With the excitement and determination shared by both the coaches and players, it’s clear that the Los Osos Grizzlies football team is ready to give their all this season. As the journey unfolds, the entire school community has a lot to look forward to, with hopes high for a successful run towards the championship. Go Grizzlies!
