As the new school year began, Los Osos hosted their well-known and annual event, Club Rush, characterized by over 60 established clubs, friendly people who encourage others to interact, and diversity amongst all.
This function holds high significance at our school as it helps students join organizations that suit their interests, build their skills in leadership and teamwork, contribute to personal growth, and provide opportunities to socialize.
This year’s event mirrored positive dynamics of the previous few years, which included the formation of blooming friendships and the creation of memorable moments during both lunches.
Many looked visibly inspired by creativity as they interacted with a variety of clubs such as the Filipino Club, African Students Association, Asian Student Union, Artistic Minds, Gardening Club, Medical Opportunities, Girls Who Code, Middle Eastern & North African Club, Best Buddies, French Club, and Fashion Club.
“There’s over 50 clubs represented by the Osos student body, which I found exciting,” Senior Vice President of the Los Osos High School (LOHS) Fashion Club, Isaac Martinez, said. “It was nice to get together with my club members, and connect with others, while simultaneously attempting to get others to join- like the other clubs did,” Martinez added.
When asked about the process of setting up Club Rush, Martinez said, “It was very efficient. The club members and I had to come out during third period, set up the tables, posters, and prize boxes with miniature lip oils and other goodies for new people, which all took around 10 minutes.”
When asked about what made his club appealing, Martinez said, “Well, the prize box helps, but what holds more importance is our belief that we welcome anyone to join and express themselves through stylish pieces… whether that is reflecting on their culture, or coming up with their own pieces in a supportive and friendly environment. That approach did attract a lot of new members this year”
Martinez continued when asked about if the event was stressful: “Not necessarily, it became overwhelming during first lunch since it became congested in a short amount of time, coupled with the heat! But we did push through.”
Being a whole new school year, there are a variety of clubs that have just made their mark on campus.
When asked how other clubs should approach being new and what advice he would give, Martinez said, “ I would say don’t be afraid to get involved. All the clubs here are very warm and welcoming. I know from personal experience.
It can be scary to try something new, but it sets you up to have an enjoyable time as you can make new friends, learn new skills, and find your passion if you give the clubs a try. A lot of the clubs are also consistent yet meet about once or twice a month so it’s manageable. You can’t go wrong when trying something new, it’s fun, rewarding and would definitely be a highlight to your Los Osos experience!”
As the school year continues to unfold, the connections and skills formed during Club Rush and future meetings will continue to enhance the Osos community. With so many diverse clubs available, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Whether that is benefitting your future, spreading awareness, fighting for causes, or finding a new hobby to entertain, don’t hesitate to dive in and discover your interests more in-depth, or follow your passions.
Both the friendships and experiences you gain will only benefit you in your journey through high school, whether you are seeking to establish new opportunities or connections, now is the perfect time to take that first step and join a club.
