Our Los Osos High School band has kicked off the start of their season with their first tournament on Saturday, October 12, at Colony High School!
They won first place in high music, first place in high visual, auxiliary sweepstakes and overall sweepstakes!
Overall, they scored 73.60 points and scored 74.5 points auxiliary.
Our school is incredibly proud of them and the honor they brought by representing our school.
Drum Major and Senior Katie Rudy said, “We did amazing. I’m very proud of everyone. We all felt very good afterwards, and we felt like we did a good job.”
With our Band Director Mr. Krumbine’s guidance, our band has done “a couple things we haven’t done before, like winning sweepstakes for color guard. It was something new that has been unique to Los Osos”. This was said by Mr. Krumbine.
The concept and theme of the show was “Wonderland”, inspired by the book “Alice in Wonderland” and the book “Alice Through the Looking Glass”. Mr. Krumbine said, “The whole concept of the show is supposed to be us being in Wonderland. It is us as students being put into the environment of Wonderland.”
To emphasize the theme of Wonderland, the band included many different props. Mr. Krumbine said, “The big props symbolize the big mushrooms that you would see in the Alice in Wonderland movie.” The props helped emphasize the theme and also helped envision the mesmerizing fantastical world of Wonderland.
In addition to props, they used an artist that painted pictures of Wonderland and their interpretation of Wonderland to serve as additional inspiration for the props and as the vision of the show.
This helped create a unique interpretation of a mythical Wonderland that made it distinctive from the Wonderland from “Alice in Wonderland”, even though they did take inspiration from the book as well.
In terms of the rest of the season, Mr. Krumbine’s goal is to “keep on increasing and getting better score wise. Hopefully [our score] will increase and get us in a better placement to keep staying on top of all the other competitions we’re doing.”
We will continue to support our band as they continue on in their season, and wish the best for their upcoming competitions. It is important to recognize every students’ efforts and sacrifices to make the show as perfect as possible.
Acknowledging these accomplishments helps motivate these students to persevere and keep a positive attitude so they can continue to be successful in the future.
As the season goes on, we look forward to seeing how far they can go, the accomplishments they will achieve, and admire how they stay motivated even after long hours of practice.
Mr Krumbine is extremely proud of his family of band students. He said, “I’m very happy and very proud of the students for all the effort they put in.”
Overall, the LOHS regiment had a beautiful, successful show that really demonstrated their hard work over the course of the year so far. I am looking forward to seeing where this season takes them!
