The Los Osos Varsity Boys Football team has had a great season. On October 25, this amazing season came to a close with an exciting Pink Out Senior night in honor of breast cancer awareness. Most of the crowd was dressed head to toe in pink to show their support. When looking from afar, it was like staring at a giant wave of pink.
The football game served as a celebration for not only the football team but also our band, cheer, sports med teams and seniors, who were all celebrated on this special day.
The game began at 7 p.m. on Friday, with tickets selling out hours before, and it started off strong with our football team scoring against Glendora, however, this didn’t last long as the tides turned against us.
Despite this, the crowd cheering continued encouraging the team to do their best and persevere, despite adversities. Additionally, the cheer team helped to rile up the crowd with a little help from local elementary school students, who put on an amazing performance and kept the crowd cheering throughout the night.
At halftime, there were many performances, notably the performances by cheer and band. The first performance was put on by the cheer team and the elementary cheer group did a fantastic job with their performance as well. Our band team was able to put on a performance called Wonderland based on “Alice in Wonderland”, using mushroom props to elevate their performance to a new level. Next, the drum line finished off the show by coming onto the stands to drum for the crowds. Then the seniors were announced and went onto the field with their family members.
The crowd cheered as the seniors, lucky enough to get chosen for the celebration, were able to celebrate with their friends and family. It was a truly heartwarming moment of celebration for the seniors to look back at all they accomplished before they graduate in May.
During the second half of the football game, much of the crowd was also watching the Los Angeles Dodgers play in the World Series of Baseball, and this caused them to also begin to cheer, “Let’s go Dodgers!” as they watched them win. That, along with the music, raised the spirits of the crowd as by then we were losing.
By the end of the game, the score was 31 to 10 with Glendora winning overall, however, it was still a great game for Osos, despite the loss because spirits were high, on and off the field with many commenting that this was one of the most full and energetic games that they have seen the crowd all season.
As the night winded down to an end, people began saying one last goodbye to each other while our school’s signature song “Sweet Caroline” played.
Although our team may have lost, we showed great grit and determination to continue the game until it ended, even though we were losing by a considerable margin, for most of the game.
