For a long time in history, as far back as humans came to be, hunting animals was a common occurrence. Back then, it was mainly for food, clothes, and to feed your family.
However, nowadays, many still do it for food or as a form of entertainment, which some think is cruel and unjust and should be illegal, while others see nothing wrong with it.
To start off, hunting began when early humans used hunting as a means for survival, as means for food and clothing. Over time, humans found new ways to hunt, and more animals to hunt.
They started out with bows, arrows and spears, and they worked their way up to the weapons we have today.
I believe one of the main reasons why hunting is a sport today is because back then, bringing food to your household was a sign of masculinity, a sign of dominance and superiority and could be seen as a generational survival mechanism.
In any case, a large downside to hunting is that many hunters are doing it too much, to the point where some species of animals are going extinct.
Hunters, especially illegal hunters, are hunting to the point where animals are in danger and may likely be extinct within a few years.
Another big reason as to why many believe hunting should be illegal is that the animals are dying and suffering. The torture and death of innocent animals does nothing good for anybody; animals should be preserved, not shot for fun and sport.
Lasty, many hunt to have animals as decorations, or for trophies, which I also personally believe is stupid and unfair for the animal. Having their head mounted on a wall just because somebody wants their house to look a little nicer is not a good reason to hunt.
Additionally, as there are many downsides to hunting, there are many upsides as well. For example, it controls the wildlife population, since hunters are always killing certain animals, it stops the population from being overcrowded.
Furthermore, since the surrounding area isn’t overcrowded with animals, it has a more positive effect on the environment and economy.
And with a better environment and economy, there is increased tourism as well as economic opportunities.
Another obvious benefit that hunting has is that it creates more food. Usually, when hunters aren’t hunting for sports, they use the meat they get from the animals as food for either themselves or others.
Overall, many have their own different opinions and take on whether hunting should be legal or not. It has its upsides, as well as its downsides.
Though it’s wrong to the animal, if it’s for something necessary, then I say go for it, but if it’s for fun or a trophy, then I’m personally against it.
