The year 2025 is approaching and many are looking forward to how the year will be different for everyone in California and the rest of the world.
One of the many things that people may be looking forward to or wanting to learn are the new laws being instituted into the state of California when 2025 begins.
California Governor Gavin Newsom signed several new bills into law over the past year and many of them address issues that continue to plague the Golden State, such as affordable housing, crime, and health care.
These new laws are listed below.
AB 413: Beginning 2025, this new “car/auto” law will make it illegal for citizens to park a vehicle within twenty feet of any unmarked or marked crosswalk, or fifteen feet of any crosswalk where a curb extension is present.
This law is very important to everyone as it ensures safer crosswalks by keeping parked cars away, reducing accidents. It is also important for high schoolers who drive or walk to school.
SB 1100: This is another “car/auto” law being signed that makes it illegal for a job posting to require applicants to contain a valid driver’s license.
This law is very convenient because it opens up job opportunities for teens and maybe even adults without licenses, emphasizing the very reasonable argument that access to work shouldn’t depend on owning a car.
AB 375: This is a consumer law that will be in effect on March 1, 2025. It requires food delivery services such as DoorDash and Uber Eats to provide customers with the first name and photo of their delivery driver.
This law is notable as it increases people’s safety. Knowing who’s delivering food is important to ensure that the safety and accountability for the delivery is perfect, helping people trust services that some may rely on.
AB 2602: This is a very interesting law as it deals with the AI issue plaguing Hollywood. This new law makes it illegal to use artificial intelligence to replicate an actor’s voice or likeness without their consent.
This law actually creates a major role in protecting creative rights of Hollywood actors. This shows citizens the importance of ethics in technology and when it is not okay to be using it to a certain degree, something that citizens are guaranteed to face more as artificial intelligence grows in the world.
AB 1836: This is another law dealing with the same topic of AI being used more in Hollywood. It prohibits the usage of the voices or likeness of dead actors without the consent of their estate.
This law is another major improvement being enforced into Hollywood’s entertainment industry. It is important to respect the rights of late actors and their families’ wishes, and using AI to replicate what they were known for without the permission of the ones who knew him closely should be seen as disrespectful and in poor taste as it creates a fake image of who they really were.
Overall, these new laws ensure the safety and security of California citizens in 2025.
