“She told me she didn’t want the night to end,” Aric Hutchinson reports. These were also Samantha Miller’s final words.
On the evening of April 28, 2023, the family of newlywed Miller suffered a great loss. Hit by Jamie Lee Komoroski’s reckless, drunk, 65 mph driving in a 25 mph zone, Miller was ejected from a “just married” decorated golf cart and tragically lost her life on the scene a mere five hours following her wedding ceremony.
At the time of the crash, the couple, Miller and Aric Hutcherson (husband), were driving off from what was supposed to be the best night of their lives. The other passengers in the vehicle – the two others being members from their wedding party, sustained “life altering injuries” says the Daily Mail.
Regarding this case, the family of Miller spoke out with their opinions.
Through his tears, the widower, Hutchinson, expressed his loss to Komoroski at the stand. “You took the greatest human being I ever met,” he stated.
Miller’s father, on the other hand, took a far angrier approach in his speech during Komoroski’s sentencing. “For the rest of my life, I’m gonna hate you…You have ruined so many people’s lives,” he said.
Their families were in close proximity to the deadly accident as it happened, and heard the sirens. A few wedding goers decided to check out what it was. Their quick investigation uncovered the horror that changed many people’s lives.
Miller’s mother described her to be “a light, she was loved,” and had touched many hearts.
Even though this event ensued more than a year ago, Komoroski has recently served her sentence. This has brought the story to recirculate through the media.
Recently, audiences have been outraged that the accused was sentenced to 25 years in prison as the family of the victim is left with a lifetime of mourning. Although 25 years is the maximum sentence she could have been given, one TikTok user expresses their concern.
“25 years is far too little,” says Tom Heaney.
The irresponsibility performed by Komoroski was displayed by a multitude of factors. One being the blatant fact that her blood alcohol levels were through the roof at greater than three times the legal limit.
Though, she does not turn a blind eye to her actions.
“I take full responsibility for the tragic outcome that my decisions have made. I will carry this guilt with me for the rest of my life,” states Komoroski.
Miller’s life will forever be mourned for and remembered by close family and friends, and this story serves as a warning for all drivers.
