January is the time when many people set goals for themselves because of the common saying “New year, new me!” They want to have a sense of control over their life and motivate themselves to be their best self for the new year.
The new year is a time to start over on a blank slate, and forget about the mistakes made in the past.
But do people always stick to their resolutions all year round? Research has shown that not many people stick to their resolution, 23 percent of people quit by the end of the first week, and 43 percent quit by the end of January. Not that many people are willing to stick to their goals for the new year, proven by these statistics.
Making a new year’s resolution is not taken seriously most of the time, and many people just make goals for themselves, just to never think about them again. The goals are meant to help and motivate people into improving themselves for the new year, but many people don’t think twice about the goal after a month.
Setting new year’s resolutions is a tradition for a lot of people, many of which feel pressured to set a goal for themselves. They feel pressured because making a resolution for the new year is a tradition, and 62 percent of people feel pressured into making a goal. Many people feel pressured because they believe that they have to become their best self for the new year, and feel like they must make a goal for themselves.
The most popular goal that people set for themselves is to improve their health, with 79 percent of people wanting to get into shape or eat healthier. Gyms burst at the seams in January because people are motivated to stick to their fresh new goal. But, then after a while, those people will begin to forget about their goal and not feel motivated to complete it.
Going to the gym or eating healthier are not the only goals people make for new year resolutions; some also try to boost their mental health. Just the start of a new year, and a blank slate, will already boost people’s mental health because they could get a do over.
New year’s resolutions are always made during the new year, but people never follow up with them, and after a month, they begin to lose interest. These goals made for the new year are almost never fully completed and only after a month people forget about them. New year’s resolutions are never taken seriously, and many people forget about them quickly and never motivate themselves to complete their goals.
