With graduation approaching, many seniors have begun several senior traditions, ranging from senior skip day, prom, and senior pranks. But my favorite tradition by far and the one I’m most looking forward to is decorating my graduation cap.
Decorating your grad cap is a unique tradition in that it’s a way to celebrate finally graduating. It’s unique to every person, as each person decides how they want to decorate their cap.
Most importantly, decorating your grad cap is a way to uniquely express who you are as a person. Instead of the regular and plain black or blue grad caps, graduation night will probably be littered with bright and colorful caps.
The way each person decides how to decorate their cap and how it looks all done tells everyone who they are as a person. It lets you peer into their personality by simply looking at the cap on top of their head.
Some people decide to keep their caps simple by just making them look pretty by decorating them with flowers, glitter, sparkles, and ribbons. Others choose to make their cap uniquely theirs by including something special to them on their cap. That could be a reference to their favorite show, movie, book, manga, album or favorite character.
Most people often decide to have a reference to graduating or their future aspirations on top of their cap. For example, it could say the graduation year, the college the student will attend, with the mascot, their major, and future job on their cap.
If you’re indecisive, you could choose to have a collage on your grad cap, filling it to the brim with references, shoutouts, quotes, and pictures.
My cousin’s cap was like exactly like this, with their cap being a mish-mash of pictures of her with her friends, her favorite movie Spirited Away, her favorite food sushi, her college UCI, and several other things.
The most important part when decorating your grad cap is to make sure that it is uniquely you. You most likely won’t get a new grad cap till four years later when you graduate from college.
So it should be indicative of the person who’s graduating from high school. This will allow you to compare it to the grad cap you’ll make when graduating from college.
On my grad cap, I’m planning to decorate it like my favorite album, Figure 8 by Elliott Smith. I chose this because it is my favorite album that has been with me through most of my years in high school.
Some precautions you should follow when decorating your cap are to make sure that it’s in the right direction. That being so that when you wear it will be read up and down from someone behind you.
That’s because when wearing your cap, people can’t see the top from the front. It will be angled sort of down from the front when wearing it. Also, when decorating, keep in mind that it’s most likely permanent if you decide to decorate directly onto the cap.
A way to get around this is by decorating an insert that goes on top of the cap.
Decorating your grad cap is one of the best traditions you get the pleasure of doing as a senior, so now it’s time for you to go out and decorate your own.
