Recently, there have been multiple incidents in which Teslas have been vandalized or burned.
Among these attacks, videos of individuals keying or vandalizing cybertrucks have been circulating online, as the dislike of Tesla and Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk grows.
These assaults have not been limited to single cars, but have also targeted Tesla car dealerships and Tesla charge stations.
People have even gone as far as shooting automatic rifles at Teslas, spreading dog feces on Teslas, and throwing Molotov cocktails at Tesla stores.
At least ten Tesla dealerships and charging stations have encountered defaced, vandalized, and burned. These attacks are most likely in response to Musk’s recent activity in support of the right wing, as well as his close relationship with President Donald Trump.
Although Teslas were once favored by the left, helping to popularize and market electric vehicles, democratic viewpoint has shifted dramatically ever since Musk made it clear that he was right leaning.
Because Teslas are an easy target, as there are millions of Tesla owners, as well as countless Tesla dealerships and charge stations, they have become the target to protest Musk’s influence and his relationship with Trump.
Both Trump and Musk have claimed that the attacks are coordinated, however, neither one of them has provided evidence to support this claim.
However, there have been organized rallies, aiming to show up at Tesla properties and protest against Musk. These types of protests have been violent and caused the destruction of property.
Theresa Ramsdell is the president of the Tesla Owners of Washington state, a club for Tesla enthusiasts, and she and her husband own three Teslas.
“Hate on Elon and Trump all you want — that’s fine and dandy, it’s your choice,” she said. “It doesn’t justify ruining somebody’s property, vandalizing it, destroying it, setting it on fire. There’s other ways to get your voice heard that’s more effective.”
Especially if a Tesla is someone’s personal property that they bought for themselves, it should not be vandalized as a form of protest. This method is ineffective and vicious to the individuals who own those Teslas.
In response to these attacks, President Trump stated that individuals who deface or vandalize Teslas could face sentences of up to 20 years in El Salvador. Trump is also claiming that attacks on Teslas are considered terrorism.
People have to remember that owning a Tesla does not automatically mean that the owner is in support of Donald Trump and Elon Musk, and that there are other ways of protesting peacefully.
