The Los Osos High School (LOHS) track team finished a great season on April 22, competing against Etiwanda High School (EHS) which was a very competitive meet with high standards and expectations to meet up to; many athletes had a lot to say about what they thought about the season as it came to a close.
Coach Art, the long distance coach, said that one of his many quotes he says alot and lives up to is to “Believe in yourself and higher power, Go the distance, There’s the gate, Faith over fear.” Los Osos won against Damien and St. Lucy’s, which was a big win, as it put the LOHS track team three wins one loss overall in the league, which is a strong placement to be in. Additionally, the team favorites were right at the beginning of the track season which was practically season opener at Ontario Relays, being the meet favorite where many season open P.R’s were made and a fresh beginning where many athletes felt strong and ready for the season.
“Cursing was not worth the 20 pushups. The season went great but don’t eat alot before practice.” Sophomore Caden Iltchi said. The LOHS track team had a great hard long season, but everyone improved so much and had great pr’s.
The season is usually cold but this track season for the Los Osos track team was surprisingly warm and hot. From the first invitational meet to the most recent league competition against EHS, Los Osos athletes have consistently pushed themselves to new heights.
The team has shown improvement across all events sprints, distance, jumps, throws, and relays with standout performances fueling their momentum. In sprints, the Grizzlies saw consistent top finishes, with athletes dropping times and making finals appearances across the 100m, 200m, and 400m.
The relay squads, particularly the 4×100 and 4×400 teams, delivered electrifying performances that had the crowd on their feet. Distance runners also made their mark, posting personal records and showing endurance and determination in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m.
Their improvement throughout the season is a testament to their hard work and the coaching staff’s dedication to helping them improve. Field events were another strong point. Jumpers and throwers alike stepped up, contributing key points to team scores. Whether it was in the long jump pit, at the high jump bar, or in the shot put ring, Los Osos athletes brought energy and competitiveness to every attempt.
Beyond the results, what set this season apart was the team’s unity. Athletes supported each other at every meet, whether it was warming up together or cheering at the finish line. Coaches emphasized growth, discipline, and positivity values that clearly resonated with the team.
As the season heads into its final stretch with CIF qualifiers and championship meets on the horizon, Los Osos is looking to close out strong. With their current form and fighting spirit, they’re not just competing—they’re leaving their mark. Coach Palmer (Short distance coach) said, “The best part of coaching is seeing the improvement of the athletes, if i could give any words of encouragement it would be to work hard if you’re willing to work hard you will see the results.”
