The LOHS Boys Water Polo Senior Night game between Los Osos High School and Claremont High School ended the night strongly. Coach Vega spoke about the season starting up and how positive his expectations are for their success.
“I think we’ve started pretty strong. I think one of the big things is that we’ve been really focusing on progress every single week, and for me, my biggest thing is focusing on playing to the standard, not the scoreboard,” Coach Vega said.
LOHS ended the game with a strong win with a score of 17-9 against Claremont High School.
The Water Polo Team bounced back with momentum and energy after coming off a loss in their battle against Northwood High School.
Junior Varsity closed the game with a box score of 7-11, bringing a loss to the Varsity team.
Regardless, Los Osos still seems to hold a strong start with the same energy every game.
“I think it’s just being able to shake off the loss, making sure to create goals for what we want to accomplish for the next game, or what we can fix,” said Coach Vega. “Senior Athletes Thomas Shirley and Andres Garcia have both stepped up to be leaders and keep the team communicated, and they’re always making sure that everyone accomplishes their goals as players and as a team,” added Coach Vega.
The LOHS Boys Water Polo Team ended the night with a double win on Junior Varsity and Varsity. Two athletes who continue to be strong assets are seniors Thomas Shirley and Andres Garcia.
They continue to keep the team on the same page offensively and defensively and make sure the team accomplishes its goals.” Just always having a positive mindset, encouraging everyone that we’re gonna have mistakes, but it’s how we bounce back that defines us”.
Andres Garcia discusses how he keeps his team motivated to win even after a loss.
“There are tough losses, but there’s always room for improvement, and there’s always another game you’ll show improvement in.”
When asked about how he stepped up as a leader, Andres said, “This senior year, it was like a flip of a switch step up with my fellow captain Thomas.”
