LOHS Girls Varsity Volleyball just won their first league game of the season against Etiwanda Girls Varsity Volleyball on September 19 at 5:00 P.M!
The game was intense, with the score staying extremely close all five rounds before our LOHS girls stole the win. Our team was overjoyed with the results, this was a fantastic way to start the season.
The energy was high as the audience cheered the players to victory! Junior Zackary Whitacre explained, “The atmosphere is so hype. Everyone here is so supportive of the team. I can’t wait to see who wins.” He expressed lots of excitement for the team.
“It was very hype, I thought we were very dedicated and we had a very strong mindset,” said Rylee Hernandez while explaining the buzz of the game.
Coach Destiney Mebane explained how the team has put in a lot of effort into being successful this season, she said, “These girls have been working so hard, they deserved it. They didn’t give up and they fought. We have something to prove this season and that just showed it.”
The girls on the team felt so proud after earning a well-deserved victory. “I feel amazing, I think my team and I did very, very well,” said varsity volleyball player Rylee Hernandez.
The team shared some of the new approaches they are working on in order to prosper this season, “A key strategy we’ve been working on is making sure you know each player on your team and what helps them,” explained Captain Morgan Altman.
The players and coaches are really focused on getting the team to connect with each other in order for them to succeed in games. Coach Destiney explains how she connects and motivates the team to get ready for games. She stated, “Fun drills, communication drills, and also, again, just putting them in situations they may be in the game.”
The girls also make sure they are mentally prepared for the game by doing different things that will help improve their performance. “Normally, I listen to music that will get me hyped up, also I pray a lot so that I’m not anxious, and I also visualize and watch TikTok so that I can be prepared,” said Captain Altman.
The girls on the team are honored to be on such an amazing team. Senior Volleyball Player Rylee Hernandez said, “I think the friendships on this team, and how hard we work, and how dedicated we are, and how much we want it is the best part of being on this team.”
“The lessons I have learned from being on this team is definitely to be resilient, and that no one owes you anything, and you have persevered,” said Captain Morgan.
It is evident that the life lessons the girls have learned from being on the LOHS Girls Volleyball team will stick with them throughout the rest of their lives, and they are grateful to be on such an outstanding team!
