On October 22, our LOHS choir filled the theatre with music as they took to the stage for their highly anticipated fall concert!
The performance featured Bear Voices, Chamber Singers, Serenata, and Concert Choir.
All of the students performing were excited to perform and showcase their hard work.
Senior Katelyn Silver, involved in all four choirs: Serenata, Concert, Chambers, and Bear voices, states, “This is the first fall concert where I’m excited for all the music; this is probably the best fall concert.”
She continues, “Dolly was really fun to learn, and for Bringers, I’m really excited for the stomps and narration solos. I think they’re both going to be really good.”
Many of the performers were particularly excited because of the variety of the songs performed as well as the fact that they included different cultures.
Senior Charlee Gilliand, involved in choir all four years, states, “I’m also excited to sing ‘Herbslied’ because it’s a different language and German is just a lot of fun to sing.”
In addition, students were also excited about other elements of the songs, such as the mood and the accompanied dance.
Junior Abby Haddad, a first-year choir student, states, “I’m most excited to sing ‘Poem One’ because of the harmonies, and I love the creepy feel. I feel like the audience will enjoy ‘Poem One’ or ‘Poem Two’, the vibes are really creepy, and I think if we can get that sense across, it’ll be great.”
Senior Aniya Green noted how much the concert would blend global sounds and languages, to connect with the world and enrich their cultural knowledge.
“They [Mr. Leyton] are teaching us the historical background as well as the lyrics … we’re not only learning something, we’re also getting to perform it like it would be performed in that culture.”
She continues, “Dolly has a lot of fun harmonies and dissonance, and I like how hype the choir is about Dolly.”
“They’re [the audience] gonna learn to appreciate choir and get some fun vibes from the performance.”
We immensely enjoyed the fact that there were songs in different languages showing various cultures; it made their performance very unique and fun to watch as audience members.
Additionally, their Halloween-esque approach and dissonant harmonies made it even better.
As audience members, the fall concert was an incredible experience. Their beautiful harmonies, mixed in with cultures and spooky themes help to make a beautiful performance.
It is clear how much the performers cared about their delivery and how hard they worked to create such an amazing show. Their dedication, passion, and excitement truly shone through on the day of the concert.
We are so proud of our LOHS choir, and look forward to their future activities!
