E-bike crashes have been getting more and more prominent as we venture into a new age of vehicles like this. These Speedy bikes have been speeding right into cars, causing major injuries, and sometimes even death.
If you look up “recent e-bike crashes on the internet, you will find hundreds of articles talking about crashes that killed people, with some being teenagers just like us.
Just in Fresno, a teen riding an e-bike is now in critical condition after a crash with a car. This goes to show how dangerous these vehicles can be. People are constantly getting hurt, as cars can easily hit them while they are on electronic vehicles.
Getting into a crash is as easy as this. It only takes one second to get hit by a car that wasn’t looking, or you accidentally go too early at an intersection.
E-bikes are dangerous and need to be made safe before more deaths happen.
Sometimes, e-bikes don’t only bring danger to the rider or driver, but also to innocent pedestrians on the sidelines. In Burlingame, a car hit someone on an e-bike, where it then crashed into a 4-year-old boy, instantly killing him, and injuring a 6-year-old girl. The two children were on the sidewalk, seemingly safe from an accident like this. However, their once seemingly normal day went completely downhill after the e-bike brutally crashed into the car.
E-bikes have proven to be dangerous to society, with crashes around the globe, and some even here. Bike roads exist, but there is still danger in the way. Kids without helmets or anything to protect them from potential accidents are right next to cars that weigh almost a thousand pounds and can instantly crush them on impact.
It is important to remember to wear helmets and to be cautious while riding an electric bike. With all these crashes, we need to be more careful as a whole. It seems as if cars cannot see these riders as they speed past them, making it dangerous for everyone.
So many people get hurt from e-bikes every day, and this rising issue needs to be resolved. Even though e-bikes act as a great source for fast and easy transportation, they are still unsafe, especially for children and teens.
Caution protects us, but not many people seem to be practicing it. Kids don’t often wear helmets, even here on campus. This puts them in danger, which increases the chances of crashes. Practicing more safety measures will benefit us greatly and will make the roads smoother.
Looking out for your peers and for yourself is something that seems small, but in reality, it can save your life.
If you ride an electric bike, remember to look both ways before riding and to stay safe with helmets. And P.S., don’t die!
