What was the last new Disney movie that really stood out to you? Chances are, you wouldn’t pick one that was released in the past year.
It is no secret that Disney’s quality has been decreasing over time. They have been focusing more on live-action adaptations of movies they have already made rather than making new, more interesting movies.
Think of the Snow White live-action, it didn’t really connect with people. People even hated the Lilo and Stitch live-action, showing how the plan to do remakes is failing. What the people want is new movies with that same spark as back then!
Think of Wall-E or Up, and how those movies really conveyed emotion towards the audience. Now compare it to the movie Disney made for their anniversary, Wish. People accused Wish of being written by AI, saying it was soulless and that it sucked, which only proves how bad Disney is getting with this.
Disney has been less focused on the soul and emotion of new movies. It seems as if they are only branching off of what they have already made to connect with their audience; they are glued to their past hits, trying to get that money they got back then.
Remakes like Moana 2, the Toy Story saga, and even Zootopia are popular because they were good movies that connected with people. But Disney is producing movies like Frozen because they know that it will give them that cash, and that’s the problem: Disney is after profit.
That’s the reason the new movies aren’t getting the same reputation as the older ones, it is because they are just easy gains to please an audience for a small time till the next one.
But while it seems that Disney is losing its spark, they still made a few good movies recently. Their movie Encanto was huge with nearly everybody. It was loved by many, and probably still is.
Another movie, Soul, only came out in 2020 and had this great lesson that connected with so many. It showed how there are still opportunities for good movies, but they’re being overlooked. Soul was barely advertised and was just thrown onto Disney+.
Even the super old Disney movies are missed. Think of the princesses, like Cinderella and Ariel. They had interesting stories that intrigued people, and while they weren’t really original, they were new and interesting, with care put into them.
They are still remembered to this day. Recognized as icons even. Now, all we get are sequels and movies that are barely talked about.
Even the Disney theme parks are getting backlash. The food there is extremely overpriced, and the lines are always 300 miles long, making customers angry. It seems that rather than a fun time, it’s a way to get people to spend lots of money on merchandise.
Audiences miss what Disney used to give them, which makes the new Disney seem lower quality compared to the past. Now, people are watching other movies from other companies. This makes Disney’s connection to its fans fall.
Now, many wonder, is this the downfall of Disney?
