Los Osos High School’s weekly video production titled “Bear Facts” is every student’s entertainment of the week. As it is a feature of the school that every student gets to enjoy during second period to start their day.
The students often exemplify their creativity through a number of skits, school-oriented interviews, and even challenges, all while maintaining relevance through the changing seasons.
The presence of Bear Facts around the campus can’t be missed as any one could spot them walking around the campus during lunchtime with a camera and microphone, in an effort to incorporate the student body with their productions. Asking them questions on what they are listening to and answering questions.
Not only do these videos capture the attention of students, but they are informative as to what important events are on the horizon at school, keeping everyone in the loop and boosting the sense of inclusion at school. With festivals and pop-up dances. Similar to journalism they bring up school information, but in a more lighthearted fashion.
Senior Ella Woolf spoke about her time on Bear Facts by saying that though she has been in this class for one year, she hopes to carry on this effect that the videos have on the students and spread it to those in the class too. “I wish to make people laugh and make sure they feel included.”
This perfectly sums up what Bear Facts is about.
Furthermore, the advisor, Mr. Wilson, is a known fan favorite among his students and sets a great example for those who look up to him. Woolf even says that her “favorite memory is talking with [her] friends and Mr. Wilson.”
Wilson has proven to be an exemplary mentor and motivates the students to further their passions. Senior Tina Danial who has also been in Bear Facts for a year, expresses that she hopes “to make more content that will entertain others” to “make the most out of” her senior year. Hoping that others will laugh and enjoy the videos that they create for the whole school year.
