Everyone has problems; there are ones that are major, there are ones that are minor, and there are ones that are so-so. Most people tend to set their focus upon the ones labeled as “big”. These problems are ones that deal with family, friends, school, jobs, and just life in general.
Things that are positive will impact you immediately or in the long run, and will have a significant impact. These are the ones that are particularly looming at the moment and seem like they need the most attention.
Everyone has problems. Every time you fix one or one goes away, you get another.
But there are other problems in life that are almost always present. Quieter ones that are not as loud whilst calling for your attention.
Bad habits like procrastination, oversleeping, being online too much, poor posture, unhealthy snacking, and many more. These problems tend not make it into our limited mental space.
The bad thing is that we don’t realize how these problems can very well pose as much of a threat as the bigger ones, especially when you let them grow into something more than they initially were. A lot of students tend to struggle with procrastination. Putting off homework or projects until the very last minute can feel nice at first, but as time runs out, it will end up causing you to feel more stress than if you had just done it earlier.
“I have procrastinated and been on my phone too long before, and because of it, I spent several stressful nights staying up late to complete the work that I put off,” said Jasmine Murphy, a freshman.
Another thing kids in our generation struggle with is being chronically online. This is one of the biggest ones, as it pretty much leads to most of the other bad habits eventually.
And yet most people do not deal with this because they don’t want to, or they think they have bigger things to deal with. But these bad habits are definitely things that need to be dealt with.
“Being on my phone has made me stay up late and be tired the next day and not able to do my work well because I wanted to rest and sleep,” said an anonymous freshman.
These bad habits can impact your life just as much as the so-called “big” ones. These little things shape who you are and what you act like.
For example, being on your phone too much can set off a big reaction of being online too late, then waking up late, being tired, not getting work done, failing classes, and causing your academic performance to ultimately drop, which is definitely not good. Especially when you want to get into a good college.
Another thing to note is that especially “big” problems stem from the “little” problems. The little things grow and grow out of your sight until they are too big to ignore.
But if we all just tried to deal with them while they were small and easier to deal with, we wouldn’t always have as many problems, let alone big ones.
