From romance to scandal we discover the heart wants what the heart wants and yearns for. We all see the way the Bridgerton family has displayed the true meaning of “yearning.” Benedict didn’t and wouldn’t stop to find his other half. As left on a cliffhanger of a display of a disrespectful nature asking Sophie the most expected comment from a male suitor, “will you be my mistress.
Longing has always been the grandeur, but this season, there is no subtle background of it. The fiery connections and confessions are often seen in prior seasons; however, Benedict and Sophie’s story unfolds a story of softer tones where the silence speaks louder than the confessions.
Benedict is the brother that is least likely to fall in love as he resents it. From once being untethered and carefree, he now experiences something far more difficult than the societal expectation but more lying in his raw emotions. Though he feels deeply, those feelings seem to elude him. Around Sophie that boundary and barrier is broken and his usual unwavering charm falters.
The art studio within this love story becomes the main point for their burning passion for one another, it’s the central space for their intense emotional tension rather than sexual.
Benedict finds finishing what he’s started very difficult, which is the drawing of the masked girl who is secretly Sophie, a maid. They both know what is there between them, what it means, they know what it could become, and they know just as surely that they can’t give into the feeling.
Sophie’s self control is born off of reality as she understands the reality of her world and the consequences of overstepping them. Benedict struggles further because he’s a man caught in between privilege and uncertainty as he’s put between his reputation and even his families. “Bridgerton has a lot of story lines to it and I think that sometimes they are really hard to understand, ” said Junior Rylan Scovill.
The main moments are when they’re around each other and we see the quiet desperation to be closer. The second part of Season four has an unspoken tension, which makes it even more enrapturing. They refuse to offer an easy resolution;, it demands patience making each episode hard to sit with the discomfort of unfulfilled longing.
It reminds us that love isn’t always defined by what’s said or done but more over what is withheld. For this season with Sophie and Benedict yearning isn’t simply an emotion it’s existence.
The subtle glances that feel very unsubtle through the screen, every moment of silence together, and every moment that they share. This show simply represents that the greatest distance between two people isn’t measured in steps, but in the words that can’t be spoken or brought to say.
