Going into senior year, new memories are made and remembered for a lifetime. As the year is coming to a close, a new memory for the class of 2026 is unlocked with what is called “Senior Assassin”. This game is played every year and is not affiliated with our school; nonetheless, most students of the senior class all participate in this fun water tag game outside of the school.
For our school, the game begins with the players paying into a pot to enter, and they are each assigned a “target”. The goal is to “eliminate” the target by shooting them with a water gun before the end of each week. If you are hit or don’t get your target before the week is up, you are removed from the game.
The catch, though, is that one can wear swimming goggles as an “immunity” from a water gun shot, and each player is allowed one “revive,” which costs 20 dollars and allows you to continue playing. The game had officially started on March 16, and the rules of the game were sent out via an Instagram post. Summarizing the outlines of the game, participants are sent a target to find and use their water gun to shoot it out of the competition. However, there are guidelines for the game and how to take the players out. The rules consist of Seniors not being allowed to get another player out during school hours or school events, at a place of worship, at a person’s house, when working, or when the player is in a vehicle. Although there were rules to get the players out, the game also had ways in which Seniors could not get you out and that was by wearing goggles that are visible. With additional rules about what each player had to do when eliminating another person, as the eliminations should be recorded, and only use water guns that are brightly colored.
etcetera.
However, a player who made it to the final ten players of 300 said that, in the beginning, “it caused drama”, Senior Rylee Hernandez says. With that, the rules in place regarding locations that are allowed seemed very necessary.
Nonetheless, many of the videos posted on the @lohssnrassassin26 Instagram page show lighthearted laughter in the face of water gun strategy. Hernandez continued to elaborate on how fun the game was throughout her extended survival. She described the game as “thrilling” and fun to “slime people out”.
With her dedication to the game, she used her one revive and made it to seventh place. The winner of the game is not to be disclosed due to the prize now being over 2000 dollars from entries, late entries, and revival fees.
The runner of the Instagram page is Senior Kory Quintanar, and he explained the organizational process. He explained that it became overwhelming as many more students than anticipated participated. He “had to make a Google form and sheet” to keep everything in line and has watched everything unfold from 300 to three participants. He was “shocked about how fast [everything] came by.”
With the wave of enthusiastic assassins flooding the organizer, Quintanar called upon Senior Naomi Knight. This request was necessary as she helped out with the communication side of things. So necessary, in fact, that Quintanar said: “If anyone does it next year, definitely don’t do it alone.”
As the face behind it all, Quintanar said that his favorite part about watching from the sidelines was “looking at all of the videos and everyone’s comments,” which are publicly available on the Instagram page.
On the page, you see the excitement and anticipation of a player getting another player out, all of which is tossed around all over school, and people talking about how fun it was to play, even when they had gotten eliminated. The anticipation of trying to find your target and hunt them down was a thrill this year, as people were randomly assigned targets from the school, and from the experience, people were able to get out of their shells and talk to many new people they had not talked to before. This was a way to make the Senior class close together right before they set off to college, making new memories for the rest of their lives.
