The Art Walk returned yet another year to Los Osos, and this year was overflowing with even more excitement among students.
Students showcased unique forms of art, fashion, and creativity in the quad. It was amazing to see all the talents of our very own friends and fellow Grizzlies!
Stands lined up along campus as students sold their creations and products. Baked goods, clothing items, and jewelry were among the many items that could be bought by other students. Junior Afia Alam held a vendor to give students Mehendi, or henna tattoos.
Hosted by Grizzly Achievement, the Art Walk was a success in the eyes of many.
Students were provided with a warm environment to interact and browse a variety of products and events.
Junior Myli Huynh sold homemade treats from her small business, “Myli’s Munchies”. Huynh said, “The Art walk introduced me to a new group of creative people, and I definitely made some new friends! All the vendors shared a love for art and creativity, which we all bonded over. It felt so easy to talk to each other and it was overall such a comforting shared atmosphere.”
The purpose of hosting Art Walks like these is to expose our students on campus to talented artists and creators, and help promote their businesses by sharing their work.
“I really value the art walk’s ability to boost student vendors; I was already doing people’s henna [tattoos] before the art walk, but with the art walk, I was able to get more customers,” said Junior Afia Alam.
Having an annual art walk gives students a unique opportunity to display and share their talents with the school community, as well as raise money.
Huynh said, “Having a place where artists showcase their talents and share them with the community is so special and I’m glad that our schools offer us this opportunity.”
This year’s Art Walk might have topped that of the past few years in terms of popularity. As attendees, the walkways were packed with students exploring each vendor one by one, and it only made us even more curious to visit each stand.
Huynh said, “I took part in Art Walk my freshman year, but not sophomore year. […] Compared to my freshman year, I noticed that there were less attendees but it still went well.”
We truly value the time, effort, and dedication each of these artists and clubs spent in preparation for the Art Walk. Many, like Huynh, spent many hours meticulously preparing their goods before the Art Walk.
“Preparation included four hours of baking the night before the art walk. I spent time crafting each cake flavor and piping each cake by hand,” said Huynh.
We hope students are inspired to also take part in the Art Walk next year; seeing all of the creativity and talent of our Grizzlies at the annual Art Walk makes us look forward to next year’s Art Walk!
