Los Osos is arguably one of the most academically competitive schools. The school offers many AP and honors courses, and it seems as though almost everyone has at least a 4.0 GPA here.

While the courses are rigorous and the workloads are heavy, students almost always come out of Los Osos prepared for college.

The website, cjuhsd.net, said, “78 [percent] of Los Osos High School graduates meet the University of California and California State University A-G admissions requirements.”

Beyond providing college level courses, Los Osos also provides students with many opportunities to prepare for college.

For example, events such as college night are informational meetings for seniors, in which they are informed about how to prepare for college, as well as college applications.

A senior that attended college night, Sebreena Pustam said, “I felt College Night was beneficial because it addressed a lot of ways to move forward from high school. And, they talked about a lot of great opportunities for safety schools and the Los Osos agreements with certain colleges.”

Additionally, Los Osos holds guaranteed admission agreements with colleges like Cal State San Bernardino, Fresno Pacific University, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal Baptist University, University of Redlands, University of La Verne, Azusa Pacific University, Biola University, and Grand Canyon University.

Students at Los Osos can achieve guaranteed admission into Los Osos agreement schools by meeting  mutually agreed upon admission requirements.

Los Osos also provides students with opportunities to take college classes while they are still in high school. According to cjuhsd.net, “Students can start their college journey while in high school by attending Chaffey College courses. This means you are enrolled as BOTH a college student and a high school student at the same time.” This is a great opportunity for students to get ahead of their college classes and it demonstrates readiness for college courses.

Former Los Osos student, Katelyn Kim, now attends Case Western University. She said, “I feel like Los Osos did prepare me for college. Obviously college is very different from high school, but in terms of course work and exams I feel very prepared.”

While many students share a common goal of going to a good college, it is important to remember that not everyone’s journey will look the same, and that’s okay.

Regardless of what path students take, it is important to do what is best for them as an individual.

Pustam said, “I feel the best way for kids to prepare for college is to do [their] own research. Not based on what is the best, or what other kids think about schools. But, what is best for [them] and [their] situation.”

There is so much more for students to experience after graduating from Los Osos. Overall, the school does an excellent job in preparing students for what comes next, college.
