Donald Trump’s presidency can be seen as historical, but likely for negative reasons.
During his presidency, people began to treat Trump like a public figure rather than a politician, in the sense that the public put him on a pedestal where he could do no wrong.
Despite his presidency being long gone, people continue to post “Trump 2024.” and “F*** Joe Biden.” on social media.
At no point in history was a politician idolized in such a fashion as Trump. His face can be seen plastered across T-shirts, American flags, and attached to bobblehead figurines. Not to mention his very own golden statue of… You guessed it, himself.
The obsession people have with Trump is alarming to say the least. The infatuation goes beyond policy and politics, as people continue to idolize him despite his 91 felony counts and even a sexual assault lawsuit.
The cult-like behavior can be seen in the way his supporters disregard facts and evidence in order to continue supporting him.
A perfect example of this is when he was impeached, not once, but twice. After his impeachments, he did not lose support. He only gained it.
If that is not a good enough example, let’s take a look at more recent events.
Recently, Trump faced four different indictments.
According to CBS and Washington Post, his charges consisted of 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, 32 counts of unlawful retention of national defense information, one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice, one count of withholding a document or record, one count of corruptly concealing a document or record, one count of concealing a document in a federal investigation, one count of scheme to conceal, one count of false statements and representations, one count of altering, destroying, mutilating or concealing an object. He was also charged with one count of corruptly altering, destroying, mutilating or concealing a document, record or other object, conspiracy to defraud the US, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, conspiracy against rights, three counts of solicitation of violation of oath by public officer, two counts of conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree, two counts of conspiracy to commit false statements and writings, two counts of false statements and writings, violation of Georgia RICO Act, conspiracy to commit impersonating a public officer, conspiracy to commit filing false documents, and filing false documents.
If you were uninterested in reading all 91 of his felony charges, well, maybe you shouldn’t support him.
Beyond his criminal offenses, Trump also faced a rape lawsuit in which he was found liable for sexual abuse and defamation.
Despite all of these things, his supporters continue to say that Trump is being persecuted rather than prosecuted.
His supporters continue to call the woman that Trump sexually assaulted a “liar”, and they even go as far as claiming that she only accused him because of a political agenda.
After being given every reason to revoke support for Trump, it still isn’t enough. People continue to praise him and some even call him “the savior” of America.
