Get ready for the thrills! Los Osos High School’s yearly “Haunt” returns on October 17-19 in front of the school and inside the auditorium, and it’s shaping up to be a chilling event! At a mere price of ten dollars, Los Osos students can enjoy a variety of scares and spooks.
Though the experience lasts about five to ten minutes, the memories will stay intact for years and this is why it is so important to go!
In anticipation of this exhilarating experience, Senior Christine Smith has given some exclusive insight into what we all hoped to know, “It usually takes about two weeks to fully assemble ‘The Haunt’, but we start preparing for it a month before by figuring out storylines and gathering props, walls, and costumes.”
When asked about what themes are most popular for the event, she gave us a small sneak peak into what we may be stepping into this coming October. “In the past we’ve always had a scarecrow room or a hotel-themed room, but this year we are doing something completely different. Our theme is going to be based on time travel.
We have never repeated a theme however, we do use similar rooms though that doesn’t stop us from finding various ways to refresh the ideas and make them different each time.” When questions arose regarding the acting process and what Christine is looking forward to the most she said, “The acting definitely progresses throughout the course of ‘The Haunt’, as we find things that work and are successful and things that do not with our large audiences.
I’m looking forward to being with all of the friends I’ve made throughout the theater program for my last haunt.” When discussing what the most difficult obstacle is related to the assembly of the event and if it ever gets stressful, Smith said, “ It can get stressful when we have back to back groups walk in and we have to get back into our positions quickly, but it is always fun when we have a lot of people come through and share the experience with us.”
Taking in consideration the past four years of attending this high school and never being disappointed by the experiences I have had related to “The Haunt,” I wholeheartedly encourage you to bring your friends, siblings or classmates and have a spooky time at this annual event. If jump scares, realistic props, and horror related holidays are your forte, you won’t want to miss such a memorable experience.
