2024 saw many fashion trends come and go; trends like bows, camo print, pinstripes, leopard print, and more, have all found a rise in popularity in 2024, but where is fashion heading in 2025, and what will happen to these fashion trends moving forward? As we move into the new year, the evolution of these trends will likely become more refined and adaptable, reflecting a shift towards personal expression and sustainability. With 2025 just beginning, it’s time to take a closer look at what will define fashion in the upcoming year and how it will build on the foundation laid in 2024.
In 2025, I believe we will see a bit more 50s inspiration in outfits which are inspired by icons like Sabrina Carpenter and Nara Smith. This year we will see the rise in the mini polka dot pattern which will be the replacement for the blue and white pin stripes that were previously trending this past summer. We will also see the re-emergence of 50’s style elements, which has already been seen in some women’s shoe styles such as the kitten heels of the late 50s and early 60s as well as ballet flats which were first seen in 1947. Finally, we will see a rise in women endorsing shorter hair cuts drawing some inspiration from the 50s.
Additionally, we will continue to draw inspiration from the 90s, but move away from neon colors seen in the Y2k styles. I believe we will see a shift away from the ‘trashy’ 90s look popularized by the ‘brat summer trend’ and shift towards a classier portrayal of 90s styles and all styles in general. That is not to say that we won’t continue to embrace casual looks, but that we will move away from the flashy, bright styles that are statement pieces in order to follow micro trends e will also likely move away from low quality pieces seen in fast fashion and lean more into authentic 90s clothing with a continual rise in popularity of thrifting.
This year, bows became extremely popular and it is part of a trend focused on embellishments and detailing in fashion. I think that this will continue in 2025 and push a more unique fashion to light in this new year.
One thing that will be part of this trend, as it has already been seen in 2024, is the rise of embellishing handbags and purses with things such as ribbon, charms, bandana’s, et cetera, in order to make them more personalized.
Another thing which will become more prevalent in 2025 is clothing with more attention to detail, such as detailed stitching or interesting textures and patterns to make clothing more unique, with buttons and lace playing a particularly key role in this trend.
The last thing which I believe will continue to grow in popularity is clothing which is less gender specific and commonly worn by both men and women.
For example, this year we saw both men and women embracing a more baggy style of clothing like jeans and jorts, larger and bulkier shoes, as well as an increased usage of jerseys, and the widely popular camo print. This idea of mens and women’s fashion trends merging will continue to be prevalent in more casual clothing styles.
As we step into 2025, fashion is all about embracing individuality, sustainability, and a mix of the old and new. Whether it’s through bold embellishments, a nod -to the 50s, or a more gender-neutral approach to style, the future of fashion will be fun and exciting this year!
