Starbucks, one of America’s leading coffee chains, is trying to return to their roots. This obviously means changes are being made; one of the changes being the discontinuation of thirteen drinks.
Before I get into the drinks that were discontinued, I do think that it was a good idea that some of these drinks were discontinued because I’ve never seen a single person get those drinks. But I’m very disappointed in a few because they were some of my favorites and some hold childhood memories for me.
Starbucks expressed, “As part of our plan to get back to Starbucks, we’re simplifying our menu to focus on fewer, more popular items, executed with excellence,” Starbucks tells TODAY.com. “This will make way for innovation, help reduce wait times, improve quality and consistency, and align with our core identity as a coffee company.” This is fair because business is business, but I do think some of the items should have not been discontinued.
Between now and September, Starbucks plans to cut out around 30 percent of items that are on their current menu. This could mean that nearly 100 drinks, breakfast items, and pastries will be removed.
The thirteen drink that were discontinued were: Espresso Frappuccino, Caffe Vanilla Frappuccino, Java Chip Frappuccino, White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino, Chai Creme Frappuccino, Caramel Ribbon Crunch Creme Frappuccino, Double Chocolaty Chip Creme Frappuccino, Chocolate Cookie Crumble Creme Frappuccino, White Chocolate Creme Frappuccino, Iced Matcha Lemonade, White Hot Chocolate, Royal English Breakfast Latte, and Honey Almond Milk Flat White.
Many of them are valid because you don’t see people getting them very often, like the Iced Matcha Lemonade. I didn’t even know that was an item on the menu, and it also doesn’t even sound very appealing so that was reasonably discontinued.
But drinks like Double Chocolaty Chip Creme Frappuccino and Chocolate Cookie Crumble Creme Frappuccino sadden me because although I don’t get them very often, they remind me of my childhood. They remind me of when we would go to Disneyland every Sunday and at the end of the day my parents would treat us to Starbucks, and although I never finished them, I always loved drinking them.
Sometimes I wish we didn’t have a business part of these types of things because I’m sure somewhere out there, there are people who love some of these drinks. I wish everyone in the world could be allowed to get their favorite drink, but obviously that’s just not possible. I do hope sometime maybe Starbucks could bring back a few of these drinks for a limited time.
