Charlie Kirk, a name you have most likely heard in the last week, died on September 10, 2025.
He was assassinated, and the public has mixed interpretations; some have celebrated, and some have mourned.
As people say, he was shot for his “political beliefs”, which I know isn’t true. Kirk preached on platforms that were racist, sexist, homophobic, and other hateful ideologies that harm people and communities. Kirk, popular for his debates on college and university campuses around the world, and also known for being on the PBS podcast, used his privileged platforms to spew his hateful “beliefs” in line with the right-wing. Kirk was extremely against gender affirming care. He said in plenty of podcasts and debates that he was against it, but one that stuck out to me was “ The answer is yes, the baby would be delivered. “ He was responding to a question someone had asked if his daughter was raped, would he have her abort the baby. He had said no, while people are against abortion, no young child should be forced to go through something so traumatic. Kirk had said the main things, including that black people are lower class or have taken a white person’s spot in the work force, but this quote, I think, sums up how he feels about black people being in the work force. “If I see a black Pilot, I’m going to be like, boy, I hope he’s qualified.” He said this on The Charlie Kirk Show on January 23, 2024. This is racism, pure and simple: stereotyping someone because of their race or ethnicity. Another Kirk also said, “If you’re a WNBA, pot-smoking, Black lesbian, do you get treated better than a United States Marine?”, which can be considered homophobic, sexist, and racist. This was said on The Charlie Kirk Show on December 8, 2022.
This is everything stated above, for the fact that it is identifying these traits and negatively framing them, implying these unfair grants of “special treatment”. The quote above is very racist, and the racist part of it is pointing out Black culture and African American ethnicity as a negative thing; it treats race as a liability or privilege in itself. He treats race or people of color as something bad, and he targets these minorities to get a sense of justice or pride.
Kirk had always said to reject feminism and that women should mainly submit to their husbands or be a housewife. But this one sexist remark that stood out to me was this: “Reject feminism. Submit to your husband, Taylor. You’re not in charge” – discussing news of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement on The Charlie Kirk Show, 26 August 2025. This is one huge example of him being bluntly sexist; it rejects feminism, which is gender equality, and Kirk tells Swift to “submit” to her husband, [something about control and having no autonomy], producing the image of a woman literally kneeling to her partner. This enforces traditional gender roles in a way that denies her autonomy over her own actions.
However, he has also contradicted himself. In 2022, on the Charlie Kirk Show, he said, “There is no separation of church and state. It’s a fabrication, it’s a fiction, it’s not in the Constitution. It’s made up by secular humanists.” He himself, in many ways, has used the bible as a source to debate people. I find it ironic that he says this since he constantly uses it to speak at public events. Kirk also had thoughts on gun violence, which had affected a lot of people in the wrong way.
Here’s one extremely important quote I found very interesting. “I think it’s worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year, so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational.” He said this at an event organized by Turning Point United States of America (TPUSA)
Faith, the religious arm of Kirk’s conservative group Turning Point USA, on 5 April 2023. The worst part of this is that he was killed by gun violence; if we had stricter gun laws, deaths like his would not be so rampant, and we as a society wouldn’t have to deal with this. He died for what he preached; he is like Frankenstein dying to his own creation. This just proves that gun violence laws are extremely corrupt and disorganized, and should be fixed ASAP.
While I support in no way making fun of his death, as it is very disrespectful and may the man rest in peace, I do not condone the glorification of a man who cannot separate humor from hatred.
