The school year is ending, and it’s time for people to start shining. April 16th was Senior Awards Night. There were about 400 students who were set to receive an award. From sports to academics, all these students have shown greatness throughout the year.
It was a nice event. The majority of the recipients got dressed up rather fancy.
The decorations were sort of simple, but I think they went well with the event. It’s meant for the students to shine, not the background and what else is going on. The students are the main event.
I do believe they should’ve done a test run before, if they did not do so beforehand. Keep practicing again and again so no slip-ups occur. This could have been just a simple mishap, though. Since my friend’s name kept getting skipped, she had to go at the end.
Senior Alejandra Felix said, “I think there are mishaps that need to be fixed. So the night can go by smoothly and students’ families can celebrate them in a lot more formal manner.”
So many people were set to receive an award, yet they didn’t even show. Another one of my friends was supposed to receive two awards, but neither he nor his family even knew. This happened to two of my friends. She didn’t even know until her mom had been sent an email a few days prior.
Senior Axel Enriquez said, “My family and I never even got a notice that I was getting nominated to get an award. I would have liked to come and my mom wanted to come and see me get those awards. Especially since it’s my senior year and my last award show.”
Some people got a notice in the mail and email, while some either got no notification or just an email.
I think the way they delivered the news to the parents and students could have been executed better. Such as giving the students the paper during class and still mailing it to students’ houses so they could receive the notice themselves and their family can see when it arrives at home. Then with the paper they receive they can give it to whoever they want to attend.
The event had a few flaws but overall I think it was a very nice and cute event. It was spotlighting so many people’s hard work and dedication throughout the years.
Senior Dylan Scott said,” I think they could’ve spent a little more time preparing since some of the slides weren’t in order and they got a lot of the names wrong.”
It’s nice to know that the people’s hard work didn’t go unrecognized and that all the work and time people have put into their sports or academics pay off in the end. Even though it’s just a piece of paper, you’re being recognized in front of admin and your peers for all the efforts you have put in.
The people you love get to see you be acknowledged for pushing yourself and being the best you, you can be.
